Novelists rarely know what they're up to, but I would describe my novels as an attempt to explore America's mores at this strange and bewildering moment in our history. Of course in my work, I ask more questions than I answer, but fortunately Rilke said, "Be patient with the questions in your heart and learn to love the questions themselves."
I published my first novel (St. Ursula's Girls Against the Atomic Bomb) in 2003, and recently completed a new novel, Dominant Iguana Seeks Submissive Zebra. My work in progress is a novel, Walking Across the Atlantic
These videos--excerpts from my new novel—were created and
filmed by the talented Gianna Kiehl, Ken French and Robin Fawcett. I am grateful to them and to Teresa Davis for sharing her wonderful paintings with me.
